We recently caught up with former WVU star running back and 2009 Grey Cup MVP Avon Cobourne to ask him a couple questions and see what has been going on with him lately. Avon helped start the run of great WVU backs after following the lead started by Famous Amos. Currently you can catch up with Avon in the CFL where he is dominating the competition up north.

Couch Fire Sports: Who do you play for in the CFL and where can we see your games?
Avon Cobourne: I play for the Montreal Alouettes. We are a very successful organization we went to the Championship last year and got the biggest ring the company’s ever made. You can catch some of our games on the NFL Network if not there on a local station Comcast in New Jersey where I am from.

CFS: What all are you involved in right now (businesses, websites, etc.)?
AC: Right now I have a business, something that I did in college. I took my phrase I wrote on my mouthpiece Chill Son and got it professionally put on. I am selling the phrase on mouth guards as well as Tee Shirts. I have a Web Site
http://chill-son.com/ where people can purchase chill son merchandise. I also have a website up http://www.avoncobourne.com/splash.html where people can get memorabilia from my games now and the past more now then the past though.

CFS: How does the CFL compare to College Football ?
AC: It doesn’t really compare 2 totally different games.

CFS: What were your initial thoughts about coming to Morgantown to play for WVU?
AC: I was fine about going to Morgantown because it was a few guys there from my high school that was there and I also went up there for a couple spring games so I pretty much knew about the school.

CFS: Favorite moment at WVU?
Ac: To be honest My most memorable is my last home game that I played at WVU vs BC and the crowd lifted me up and they where chanting my name.. Awesome experience!

CFS: What advice would you give to a freshman coming onto campus for the first time, not talking just football players, females too?
AC: Some advice to freshmen is college is about relationships. Meet as many people as you can because what they say is true about its not what you know its who you know!

CFS: Best story we never heard when you played? teamate, you, coach, anything.
AC: Best story I ever heard when I was playing was someone had been engaged and then they split up so he devised a plan to steal the ring back. It involved some tall people sneaking in a second story window and yes he got his ring back.. hahha

CFS: Best place to eat in Morgantown?
AC: I love seafood so the best place was for me was Back Bay on the mile ground.

CFS: What would we find in Avon’s CD player right now?
AC: Right now Jay-z unplugged

CFS: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?
AC: I would love to live in Cozumel Mexico at the resort my wife and I went to out there. It was beautiful. We have to be on that resort though. Arua hotel was awesome.

CFS: This last question is a little off the wall, but how crazy was Antonio Brown? He had a smiley/frown face tatted on his elbows.
AC: AB is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He had a very rough upbringing with inspired him to get his tats. He has a lot of them and they are pretty cool I actually want to copy his tats on his elbow and instead of clown face I am going to get footballs with a happy a sad face. Be he is a really good dude. Right now I think he has a couple laundry mats in Miami he is doing well for himself.

Thanks for taking some time out during your season Avon. We appreciate every happy moment you have given us as a Mountaineer. Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer.

Also make sure you support Avon and his sites. I know you people got kids who play football or know kids who play football, get them the tightest Mouth Pieces out. The seasons are just getting going so get them something they can show off and be proud about.
